AQA GCSE PE: Isotonic, Concentric, Eccentric & Isometric Muscular Contractions | Types of Muscle Contraction | AQA Paper 1
This video seeks to outline the types of muscular contractions that take place during the performance of a bicep curl, push up, handstand and a plank. To compliment each of these examples definitions will be provided. It is essential that YOU understand this topic in preparation for the AQA GCSE PE (9-1) paper 1 examination.
With reference to the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle joints you need to know the following:
• major muscle groups operating at these joints.
• how these muscle groups work isometrically and isotonically (concentric/
eccentric).
• the difference between concentric and eccentric (isotonic) contractions.
• a range of sporting examples where isometric and isotonic (concentric/eccentric) contractions can be seen.
I have attached the AQA specification below where you can read about this.

Key terms: muscle contractions, bicep, tricep, isotonic, concentric, eccentric, isometric, shortening, lengthening, tension, stationary position and movement.
