Karikkakom Devi Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to 'Chamundi Devi' at Trivandrum City and Chamudi Devi which is another form of Bhadrakali Devi is the main Deity.
In this temple 'Chamundi Devi' is worshiped in three different forms which are 'Chamundi , Raktha Chamundi , and Bala Chamundi'. Bala Chamundi is her child form and Raktha Chamundi is a fierce form.There are three Sanctums adjacently and in the middle one is dedicated to 'Raktha Chamundi and extreme right one is dedicated to 'Bala Chamundi'
During the reign of Maharajahs culprits were brought to the temple to say oaths before 'Raktha Chamundi' Devi and every one feared to tell lies.In the Sanctums of Raktha Chamundi and Bala Chamundi no idols are existing but there are only mural paintings.Devi's presence is but highly felt there and the doors of those sanctums are kept closed always except pooja times.
'Sastha' Ayiravally,Nagas and Yakshiyamma' are also worshiped in this temple.
Childless couples pray befor 'Bala Chamundi and Nage Devathas' to get a child of their own and to cure diseases of children and their well being also.Before Raktha Chamundi people prays fo remove obstacles, problems from enemies, and to solve many miseries and sorrows.In general Chamundi Devi removes sorrows of the devotees and bless them with good health and prosperity.
There is annual festival for seven days and on one day 'Pongala offering' by women devotees is held.The gathering of women to perform Pongala extends to two three km around the temple.One day Devi's idol is taken out for a procession in a golden chariot and thousands of devotees gather to witness that also.
The main offerings are 'Kadum Payasam, Aravana Payasam, submitting silk sarees and silk clothes, submitting gold and silver ornaments, sathrusamhara pooja,sathrusamhara pushpanjally, Thrimadhuram, offering flowers and garlands etc.
''Sarvaralankara Pooja' is also auspicious which is another offering done here.
The temple is situated 7km from Trivandrum Central Bus Stand and Railway Station.
The temple is open from 5 AM to 11 Am and in the evening from 4.30 to 8 PM
