Bjork's costumes to go on auction

Bjork's unique style can now be bought for a price.

Some of the Icelandic singer's quirky stage costumes, created especially for her, will go under the hammer in London in the coming weeks.

Bjork is auctioning off the outfits - some of which have been previously exhibited at the Museum Of Modern Art in New York - in a bid to raise money for research for her new groundbreaking virtual-reality project.

Auctioneer Kerry Taylor says that the event will represent a new challenge for her, as items from the singer have not been on the market before.

"It's going to be exciting and interesting to see what happens. The McQueen pieces, they were very close friends, so the McQueen pieces are really really special. They're one-offs made for her," Taylor said Thursday (2 JUNE 2016).

The dresses up for grabs are some of the most iconic that Bjork has ever worn - minus the infamous swan dress she modelled at the Oscars.

Alexander McQueen designs take front and center in the collection.

One is the Japanese-inspired costume from the cover of the singer's 1997 "Homogenic" album.

Another is a dress covered in thousands of hand-sewn tinkling bells that was made by especially for her music video for "Who Is It?" in 2004.

"Bjork's Alexander McQueen designed bell dress from 2004 is just incredible because it's like a sculpture. It's more than just something to wear," said Taylor.

The dress is expected to fetch between £10,000 and £15,000 (U.K. sterling).

Another major designer that aligned her vision with Bjork's was Dutch designer Iris van Herpen, whose outfits have also taken the fashion world by storm.

"Her dresses again, they take three to four months to make. They're all hand-cut and laser-cut. And again they're like sculptures. They've never been on the open market before," said Taylor, of their unique selling point.

One of them, an electric blue acrylic dress that the singer wore for her "Biophilia" tour in 2011 is estimated to reach between £2000 and £3000.

"Although I can put presale estimates, it's not until I bring the gavel down on the sale day itself that we know, 'Right, that's what the piece is actually worth.'"

Other important lots include two of Princess Diana's most iconic outfits: one sequined blue dress designed by Catherine Walker is estimated to reach up to £100,000 and a blue coat designed by Elizabeth and David Emanuel expected to sell for up to £15,000.

"Passion for Fashion" takes place on June 14.
