Medical Debt Relief Initiative | Letter Announcement

You may be watching this video right now because you just received a letter in the mail saying your medical debt was forgiven.

Under the leadership of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County is the first local government in the country to launch the Medical Debt Relief Initiative. This was done because of the pressures facing working families in Cook County.

Cook County government, in partnership with national nonprofit Undue Medical Debt, have sought to change that. To date, Cook County has forgiven more than a half a billion dollars in medical debt to over 556,000 Cook County residents since 2022.
