August 1st marks the festival of Lammas, also known as Lughnasadh, or "Loaf Mass", a traditional Celtic and Christian celebration, marking the beginning of the harvest season. Lammas is a festival of gratitude for the first fruits of the harvest, providing a pause to reflect on personal and communal growth.
It is a time to give thanks for the abundance of crops and to honour the sun god Lugh. During this festival, people gather to share food, music, and stories, celebrating the gifts of the earth and the hard work of the farmers. It is a time of joy and gratitude, as well as a reminder of the cyclical nature of life and the importance of community. Whether through baking bread, making corn dollies, or participating in rituals, the festival of Lammas is a time to connect with the land and with each other.
