Latitude by Polaris without Time or Almanac

Latitude can be found from the sextant height of Polaris. We briefly review the standard method using timed sights and the Nautical almanac, but spend most time using a Regiment of the North Star, from which we deduce the correction based on other stars, without the need for watch or almanac.

The principles behind latitude by Polaris are outlined, which depend on light rays from distant stars arriving parallel over the earth's orbit.
