When Kenya's economy was liberalised in the nineties, the clothing and textiles industry was torn and in some cases shredded, forcing most businesses to close shop and rendering thousands jobless. Today, a few of the companies that collapsed then are struggling to sew themselves back to full fabric. But Thika Cloth Mills and KenWear in Thika town survived the liberalisation. They were admittedly stretched, but not torn.
