The replacement alternator turned up in the post today, exchanged under warranty for the one that was overcharging and boiling the batteries. It didn't take too long to fit and after I greased all the joints around the vehicle, the service was done.
I then took the Jeep for a short test drive, to both check the alternator charging, but also to check the oil filter lid for any signs of leaks, after the slight problem with the 'O' ring. All was well on the drive and so Jessie is back on the road again.
