Anne Boleyn: The Only Crowned Queen Consort of Henry VIII

Anne Boleyn was the only wife of Henry VIII to be crowned in her own right.

Normally, queens consort in England did not have separate coronation ceremonies. However, Henry VIII arranged a special coronation for Anne Boleyn on June 1, 1533, at Westminster Abbey.

Anne was crowned with the Imperial Crown, an unusual choice, as this crown was typically reserved for monarchs. This act was meant to emphasize her unique status and the legitimacy of her marriage to Henry VIII, especially given the controversy surrounding their union after England's break with Rome.

None of Henry VIII’s later wives were ever crowned.
