My first loads with the Lehigh 528gr Match Solids. Lehigh states they’re stable with 1:15 twist or faster my 458 has a 1:14 twist barrel, so it should be good to go, but these bullets are still very long, so I figured before I go crazy developing the heavy loads, if they’re going to destabilize, they’ll most likely do it at lower velocities when they’re not spinning fast, or way down range when they’re transonic. Also, since there’s no published load data for the 458 Lott and this projectile, I’m taking my time warming up my loads and watching for pressure signs. For now, I’m just going to have some fun with some trailboss loads. I haven’t got my hands on a chrono at the moment, but based on some similar weights I’ve loaded for in the past, I suspect my start load is just subsonic, and my full trailboss load is just into the supersonic range. I could hear a little extra crack with rounds 2 and 3, which suggests they may have in fact been supersonic, whereas my first shot wasn’t. Anyway, they shot well, no signs of wobble, destabilizing, or key-holeing, so I’ll start working up some hotter loads. Sorry I neglected to get some downrange footage. I realize that would probably be more interesting than watching just me ramble on. I’ll so better on my next vid.
