African Blue Spice Basil: How To Grow & Propagate

African Blue Spice Basil is a pollinator magnet. I bought one $2 seedling three years ago and it grew like crazy. I kept cutting it back, but it just kept growing. I made some cuttings and planted three more plants and from one of those, gave a cutting to my brother-in-law Mark.
Mark then brought his plant indoors for the winter because it smelled so good. From that plant more cuttings we’re made. This year’s plants will be the 7th generation of that original $2 seedling.
AFRICAN Blue Spice Basil is DIFFERENT than Blue Spice Basil, which I also grow. It cannot be grown from seed, only from propagation (cuttings are super easy to make).
Why grow it? Let me count the ways!
1) It grows fast, is a beautiful, bushy plant.
2) It attracts all sorts of pollinators. One day I watched and saw 8 different pollinators on the plant at the same time!
3) It smells fantastic and tastes great too. Use it fresh in cooking or in my favorite way- fresh iced teas or spritzers. It’s easy to dry and Mark thinks it tastes even better dried.
4) It blooms constantly, but does not drop seed. Make cuttings to propagate new plant. Super easy to do.
