"99" was the first single and biggest hit from Toto's second album, Hydra in 1979. The song holds a special meaning for the band (Well, most of them, except 1).
One band member in particular, Steve Lukather, is known for having a particular dislike of “99”. In fact he dislikes it so much that regardless of it being one of Toto’s most-popular tunes, they rarely played the song live even though this song helped them sell 15 million albums.
Toto keyboard player David Paich wrote this song, which is inspired by the 1971 movie THX-1138.
As a single, it reached number 26 on the Billboard charts. In Canada, the song peaked at number 17 on the RPM singles chart.
I really like this song, so I have made this video. I even included a pic with Steve Lukather in the video regardless of whether he likes the song or not. Sorry Steve lol
