From Navy Corpsman to MARSOC 3
In this episode, I sit down with Eric Gilmet, a retired Navy Chief Hospital Corpsman whose story is one of service, sacrifice, and resilience. He is also my classmate at the University of San Francisco!!!
Eric grew up in a small town in Mid-Michigan and, at just 18 years old, committed his life to serving his country. For 21 years, he wore the uniform with honor—deploying as a medic with both Marine Infantry and Special Operations forces. His career brought him into some of the most challenging environments, where he provided life-saving care to Marines on the battlefield.
But Eric’s legacy is not only about his years of service—it’s also about his role in the saga of the MARSOC 3. Alongside two Marine Raiders, Eric faced years of legal battles after being accused in connection with the death of a civilian contractor in Iraq. What followed was a grueling fight for justice that drew national attention, highlighting issues of accountability, military justice reform, and the heavy toll such cases take on service members and their families.
Despite the weight of that ordeal, Eric has emerged with dignity and strength. Retired since 2023, he now finds peace in Michigan with his family. Whether he’s working on projects at their lake house, golfing, or bird watching, Eric continues to live with the quiet resilience that carried him through the storm.
This conversation explores Eric’s journey from small-town beginnings to the heights of special operations, the trials of the MARSOC 3 case, and the lessons he carries forward into civilian life.
