Over 100 years old the heritage listed Majestic Picture Theatre at the little cosy town of Pomona Queensland Australia, boasts the record of the longest running theatre in the world for screening Silent films.
The other record is that it is one of only a few theatres still existing these days which has a working theatre pipe organ. The ten-rank Compton organ was restored over some six years and each week accompanies the Silent Films - just as theatre pipe organs did in days gone by.
The resident organist Ron West plays y organ in accompaniment to each Silent film, creating the mood and sound effects to help bring each silent film to life - as it were.
The Avida Motorhome Group organiser Barry Moore, himself an organist, included a visit to the Majestic theatre as part of the itinerary on their 16 day Mystery Tagalong in South East Queensland Australia. All agreed it was a highlight of the tagalong.
Ron West upon hearing of Barry’s visiting group invited Barry to play before the film starts.
Unrehearsed, Barry played a selection of songs including the Washington Post March, some songs from the musicals and a few singalong Melodies.
