ఇతిహాసాల ప్రకారం భీష్మ పితామహుడు కూడా ఉత్తరాయణ కాలంలోనే తన దేహాన్ని విడిచాడు. ఏకాదశి వ్రత మహిమను స్వయంగా శ్రీకృష్ణుడు ఉపదేశించాడు.

ఈ రోజున విష్ణు సహస్రనామం వినడం,
“ఓం నమో నారాయణాయ” జపించడం వల్ల
శాంతి, సంపద, దైవ కృప లభిస్తుంది.

Mukkoti Ekadasi, also known as Vaikunta Ekadasi, is one of the most sacred and spiritually powerful days in Sanatana Dharma. It is believed that on this auspicious Ekadasi, the gates of Vaikunta (Vishnu’s divine abode) are opened for devotees, offering a rare opportunity for moksha – liberation from the cycle of birth and death.

The word Mukkoti refers to the 33 crore devas who are said to assemble at Vaikunta on this holy day. Observing Ekadasi with fasting, devotion, and chanting Lord Vishnu’s names is believed to wash away accumulated karmas and elevate the soul spiritually.

One of the most significant rituals on this day is Uttara Dwara Darshanam, where devotees pass through the Northern Gate (Vaikunta Dwaram) of Vishnu temples. According to Puranas, entering through this gate symbolizes the path to salvation and the awakening of divine consciousness.

Itihasas state that Bhishma Pitamaha waited for this sacred period to leave his mortal body, knowing the power of Uttarayana and Ekadasi. Lord Krishna himself revealed the importance of Ekadasi vrata as a supreme spiritual discipline.

Listening to Vishnu Sahasranama, chanting “Om Namo Narayanaya”, and seeking the darshan of Lord Venkateswara Swamy on Vaikunta Ekadasi brings peace, prosperity, protection, and divine grace.
