The company Colossal claims to have "de-extincted" the dire wolf. A biology teacher reacts.
Correction: In this video I say they made 20 edits and I then compare this to 12 million nucleotide differences between grey-wolf and their alleged dire-wolf genome. By doing this I suggest they only made 20 nucleotide changes. In reality, we don't know how large each edit was (could have been more than 1 nucleotide per edit) because they have not published their data, but we do know they only made edits to 14 genes (Wolves have over 19,000 protein coding genes), and 5 of those edits came from dogs, not dire wolves.
