The Barstool Sports personality confirmed his plans to exit his BFFs podcast—which he cohosts with Josh Richards and Brianna “Chickenfry” LaPaglia—later this year, explaining that he had outgrown the popular program.
“The subjects don’t interest me at all,” he shared during the Nov. 14 episode of The Unnamed Show, his podcast with Kirk Minihane and Ryan Whitney. “They show me the topics when I go in there, I haven’t done any research, and I’m just ripping apart 18-year-olds, who I don’t even know. I don’t love necessarily doing that.”
Dave—who launched BFFs with Josh in 2020 before Brianna joined as a cohost the following year—noted that he feels he’s outgrown the show.
Dave Portnoy will be leaving Barstool Sports’ “BFFs” podcast at year’s end, leaving the show to co-hosts Brianna LaPaglia and Josh Richards, he confirmed on the “Unnamed Show” on Thursday.
“They show me the topics when I go in there, I haven’t done any research, and I’m just ripping apart 18-year-olds, who I don’t even know,” Portnoy told co-hosts Ryan Whitney and Kirk Minihane. “I don’t love necessarily doing that. It’s a little different.”
The BFFs podcast will be looking slightly different in 2025!
The popular Barstool Sports podcast is hosted by Dave Portnoy, Josh Richards and Brianna Chickenfry, and during the latest episode, Dave shared a major update about the future of the show after he previously revealed he’s leaving.
The 47-year-old Barstool Sports founder and podcast co-host first teased the news on the Nov. 7 episode of the show, revealing that his plan was always to leave the show at the end of 2024. He explained that a part of his decision was because he was "getting older" and "talking about teenage drama [is] a little out of my wheelhouse now."
He added that his other co-hosts Josh Richards and Brianna LaPaglia knew about the decision "for months" and were looking for the best way to announce it.
Dave Portnoy has announced that he will be leaving the "BFFs" podcast at the end of the year, passing the hosting duties to co-hosts Brianna LaPaglia and Josh Richards. The Barstool Sports founder confirmed his departure during an appearance on the "Unnamed Show," stating that he feels out of touch with the podcast's focus on teenage drama.
Portnoy explained, "They show me the topics when I go in there, I haven’t done any research, and I’m just ripping apart 18-year-olds, who I don’t even know. I don’t love necessarily doing that." He emphasized that while he believes the podcast has achieved its goals since its launch in 2020, it is time for him to explore new opportunities.
LaPaglia and Richards will continue the show without Portnoy, potentially changing its format. LaPaglia noted that the podcast would be "definitely going to be a new pod" without his influence. Portnoy's final episode has not yet been scheduled, but he plans to remain involved until the year's end.
This announcement comes amid ongoing drama surrounding LaPaglia's recent breakup with country singer Zach Bryan, which has been a significant topic on the podcast in recent episodes.
