One Year With A Giant Pet Bull Ant

A year ago, I started an exciting adventure with a giant bull ant queen, one of the largest ants in the world with her nearly 3-centimeter-long body. My goal: raise a healthy colony, keep them safe, and make sure they don't escape.

It all started when I received a damaged box containing a queen and her three tiny babies. Despite the rough start, I set up a new home for them. The queen, named Britney, quickly took charge, but sadly, the larvae were soon gone.

Britney didn't give up. She laid new eggs, and hope was renewed. As the larvae grew, more challenges came, reducing their numbers again. A new nest helped, and I witnessed a special moment: a larva successfully making its cocoon.

Months later, the first worker ant emerged, marking the start of a new colony. By the 10th month, three workers had joined, and Britney laid new eggs. The young workers gathered food, allowing the queen to focus on the new babies.

From a lone queen in a broken box to a growing colony, this year has been full of ups and downs. Now, I'm excited to see what happens next
