The symposium commemorated Former Academy President Prof. Jacob Ziv (1931–2023) - A pioneering scientist and architect of Israeli science. Prof. Jacob Ziv, of the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, was one of the world’s foremost computer scientists. Together with Prof. Abraham Lempel, he developed the Lempel–Ziv (LZ) algorithm, the foundation of modern data compression technologies such as ZIP and GIF. Beyond his groundbreaking research, he was one of the architects of Israeli science – serving as President of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities (1995–2004) and founding TELAM, the national forum for research infrastructures. His vision and leadership shaped Israel’s scientific landscape and inspired generations of researchers.
