After more than three years had passed, Mugar and his family members visited their house in the Village of Hattimy, near Sinjar, with eyes full of tears.
ISIS members had told them: 'You should convert. there is no religion except Islam.' they stayed trapped in the village, and felt very tired, there was no food or water, neighbors were crying and everybody was screaming.
On August 3rd, 2014, ISIS militants invaded all Yazidi territories and trapped the inhabitants of Kocho and Hattimy villages in southern Sinjar, which were far from the mountain.
After being trapped for 6 days, on August 9th, 2014, the people left the village and walked barefoot for 9 miles to reach the mountain. It was a very hard situation for them, especially when ISIS members said that there is no religion except Islam and Yazidis are infidels.
They didn’t know at that moment that they were killing them all. One night, the mayor of the village said: We will leave the village tonight in the hope that we won’t be arrested.
At 8:00 pm they lit the lights without having supper, and they all gathered in an area surrounding the village and left.
In the morning they were reached Amaden Shrine located on Mount Sinjar.
With eyes filled with tears, Na’am enters her doorless house and searches for the keys.
“This is this our garage; our car was parked inside. I had filled it with a lot of stuff that we may need, but we fled from our house on foot. We had no time to take it; we just wanted to save our kids”. Na’am said
She added “My little daughter had her doll with her. I took her doll from her hands and put it under the water tank, because we couldn't bring it with us. She was very sad and crying at losing her beautiful doll. We locked our doors and put the keys under the ceramic tile hiding it. We thought that we would go back to our homes after a few days. We didn’t know that we would be leaving for good”.
Na’am calls her daughter “Come here my daughter, this is your beautiful doll, they removed its hands”.
Children are victims of all that has happened, especially Yazidi kids who have been abducted by ISIS, who are being brain washed and trained to fight.
“This is my little Bike, ISIS destroyed it. It was so nice, and I felt happy when I was riding it” Na’am’s son said.
Hattimy village, located 9 miles south of Sinjar. On August 3rd, its population was 423. 19 of them became victims of the genocidal attacks by ISIS, while others are still living in IDP and refugee camps
