An original and stunning example of the iconic Ford Motorsport developed Escort RS1600i in a wonderful preserved condition.

EXTERIOR
The exterior of this RS1600i is stunning, finished in gleaming standard Ford Black. The paintwork has a bright shine and is in exceptional condition, complimented by the correct RS1600i decals on the bonnet, boot lid and sides. The paintwork on the boot lid surrounding the rear window has lost some of its shine, however this is a very minor observation and does not detract from the overall impressive appearance of the car. The inner wings and battery tray are solid and show no sign of corrosion. Stone guard protection has been applied to the inner sills and door shuts for added protection. All exterior trim is in excellent order as is the original glass, lights and badges. A fantastic example of the car that first returned the RS badge to the MK3 Escort.

INTERIOR
The interior of this RS1600i is in fantastic order. Finished in Shark Grey Crushed Velour, the seats are extremely well preserved. The seat pads and backs are free from wear, as are the door cards which are in remarkable condition. The upper side bolsters on the front seats have matching leather patches that have been professionally and very neatly stitched into them. The original perforated headlining is tight and free from marks and discolouration. The dashboard has some very minor cracking on the instrument binnacle section, a common issue with MK3 Escorts. The leather trimmed RS 4 spoke steering wheel is in excellent condition. All interior equipment is functional and the trim pieces intact, including the immaculate rear parcel shelf which has remained free from speakers cut outs. The two led lights in the speedometer designed to illuminate when decelerating from above 1600rpm are in perfect working order and show that the deceleration fuel shut off is operational as Ford intended. An original Ford stereo remains in the car. A delightful and functional 80's interior.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with Fords 1600 Compound Value angle Hemispherical chamber (CVH) unit, producing 115 BHP when new, mated to the Bosch K Jetronic Fuel Injection System incorporating deceleration fuel shut off. The car still operates the twin coil set up as it did when the car rolled of the production line at Ford. The engine has a delightful exhaust note as the car accelerates smoothly to a maximum speed of 118mph and achieves 0-60 in 8.7 seconds. Front wheel drive 5 speed synchromesh gearbox with remote shift. The gear changes are light and precise allowing both subtle and enthusiastic driving, a pleasure to operate.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original 15 X 6 inch RS seven spoke alloy wheels are spotless and shod with matching Goodyear Eagle F1 195/50R15 tyres all round, with excellent tread remaining. Diagonally split hydraulic circuits with tandem master cylinder, vacuum servo assistance and 9.4" ventilated discs up front bring the car to an assuring stop.

HISTORY FILE
The car has had 7 former keepers, and it is clear from the condition of the car that the owners have cherished it. The previous owner, a Mr Atkins is a RS1600i enthusiast who still owns a concours condition RS1600i in Diamond White. A history file containing many previous MOT's and invoices indicate the level of care this car has clearly received, including a recent cambelt change in February 2012. Previous MOT certificates confirm the genuine mileage of 130,850 miles.

This vehicle will appeal to a serious collector wanting an incredibly well preserved, unmolested example of a now, very rare car.
