The Florida Panthers kicked off their Stanley Cup defense in style, defeating the Chicago Blackhawks 3–2 on opening night at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida.
Jesper Boqvist scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period off a setup from rookie Mackie Samoskevich, while A.J. Greer and Carter Verhaeghe also found the back of the net. Sergei Bobrovsky made 17 saves as the Panthers raised their second consecutive Stanley Cup banner and started the 2025 season with a gritty win — even without Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk in the lineup.
Frank Nazar and Teuvo Teravainen scored for the Blackhawks, and former Panthers goalie Spencer Knight made 34 saves in his return to Sunrise.
