The Barton Workshop is an ensemble lead by James Fulkerson and specializes in (mainly American) modern classical compositions. In the series ‘Composer Portraits’, it is now the turn of soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy. His work ranges from all forms of jazz to composed/improvised pieces for classical musicians and dancers. The program revolves around ‘Traces’, a song-cycle in ten parts, based on the poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke. Two songs of this series can be heard on Lacy’s CD; ‘Monk’s Dream’ (with Roswell Rudd).
This private footage is dedicated to the late great master of the soprano saxophone, Steve Lacy and his partner Irène Aebi. They played at Bimhuis in Amsterdam the day before. This show is for educational and entertainment purpose only. Please share and buy their music if you can to help music remain sustainable.
