This week, I managed to convince my wife to join me for her first ever Parks On The Air activation — and she had no idea what she was getting into! 😂
We set up at the beautiful Stotfold Watermill Nature Reserve and operated on the 20-metre band using my homemade wire dipole and the Xiegu G90 running just 10 watts. The goal: make a few contacts, enjoy the outdoors, and (hopefully) get her to admit radio can actually be fun.
Between the cold wind, the tangle of wires, and my enthusiasm levels hitting 11, it was definitely a memorable day out. If you’ve ever tried to get your partner interested in amateur radio… you’ll feel this one!
