Alright! REM's "Fall on Me" off the 1986 "Life's Rich Pageant album. This song features both Michael Stipe and Mike Mills on lead vocals at different times in the tune. Fall on Me was the first of two singles released from that record and it peaked at number 94 on the Billboard Hot 100, which is ridiculous. The biggest song in that year was "Living on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi, which comparatively is a piece of shit. This is real music that is going to stand the test of time. Unlike Jon's.
These videos serve as lessons on how I play this bunch of Pop, Rock, and Reggae songs - sometimes as a single guitarist playing the only guitar part, though that's rare. And sometimes if there is more than one guitar part, then trying to find the single good path through the tune. I complete one pass, demonstrating different Rhythm parts, styles, and techniques. There is no talking. No discussion. No note-for-note explanations. As such, for clarity, my guitar is supposed to be louder in the mix than it would ever be in a live setting. But, if you really want to hear what I hear, do what I do and put on a good pair headphones with great bass response! It's worth it.
Why this is important to Rhythm Guitar:
I'd say it's the interplay between the 12 string Acoustic and the 6 string Electric part I'm playing. You kinda need them both. I start the song with sort of the 12 string riff and pick the first verse with pretty much the 12 string pick pattern, and then finish the rest of the song with full on Electric guitar.
It's not a hard song to play.
It's a hard song to play well.
