Hamikuma, beloved undead circus bear and boss of Universal Studios Japan’s Halloween Horror Nights, made his Universal Hollywood debut this year. The park featured Hamikuma merchandise (sells out yearly at USJ), his anime origin (creepy!), and nightly photo ops. A delightful addition to this year’s Halloween event!
Hamikuma first appeared as a nameless character in the Killer Cutie zombie scare zone in 2021. An instant crowd pleaser, he gained a name and backstory and by 2024, Hamikuma had his own massive musical stage show that explored the mysteries of birth and death. And featured acrobats. And beautifully decadent vampires.
Who or what is Hamikuma? He was once simply an adorable dancing circus bear, but the other performers grew jealous. They envied his rising popularity. So they murdered him and cut him open to peer inside his maimed and ruined body. They wanted to prove he wasn’t a real bear at all… but instead they made him more than bear. More than cute. More than Halloween.
