In the 1086 Domesday Survey Uffington was in one of the most populous and prosperous parts of Berkshire, had good arable and pasture lands, woods and a plentiful water supply. The surpluses the area generated enabled it to forge valuable, influential and enduring links with English royalty for several hundred years.
The Great Western Railway line from London to Bristol opened in 1841. Uffington Station was about a mile north east of Uffington and in 1864 the station became a junction when a branch to the town of Faringdon opened.
Uffington station closed in 1964.
