Based on CHAPTER 1 OF THE ACTS OF PILATE
🧩 1. If we are confused today...

...then that confusion may not be new. It may come from something ancient — an event, a missing record, or a suppressed understanding.
So when a text like the Acts of Pilate (or Descent into Hell) explains the spiritual causes of things we still wrestle with — division, misunderstanding, or unseen powers — it’s worth studying, not ignoring.

📖 2. The early believers weren’t afraid of reading widely

Writers like Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, and Origen often examined pagan, Gnostic, and Jewish writings — not to believe them, but to test and discern.
That’s biblical discernment: “Test all things; hold fast that which is good.” (1 Thess. 5:21)

🕯️ 3. Sometimes truth hides in what others reject

If the same scholars admit the text was likely a counterblast to false pagan acts — that means it was a defense of truth at one point in time.
So rather than labeling it “apocryphal” and dismissing it, we can view it as a mirror showing how the early Christians tried to protect the truth about Christ’s death and resurrection — and how spiritual deception was already at work.

⛓️ 4. The Descent into Hell theme is not strange

Peter wrote it plainly:

“He went and preached unto the spirits in prison.” (1 Peter 3:19)
That means this concept is not “Gnostic” — it’s apostolic.
The Acts of Pilate simply illustrates what that descent could have looked like, giving dramatic detail to a mysterious verse that even theologians still debate.

✊ A Stand of Faith

The scholars may argue.
They question the origins, the manuscripts, the dates —
but we stand like Cornelius, not by debate, but by faith.

Cornelius did not see the wounds of Christ, yet he believed the message.
He did not argue the scrolls, he obeyed the voice from heaven.
While the wise disputed in Jerusalem, Cornelius prayed in secret —
and the Spirit answered him first.

So we, too, defend not with pride of knowledge,
but with the humility of faith.
We read what others dismiss, not to exalt the text,
but to discern the truth that endures.

Let the critics trace their sources;
we will trace the Spirit’s witness in our hearts.
For faith is older than scholarship,
and revelation is brighter than argument.

As Cornelius knelt before Peter,
so we kneel before Christ —
not demanding proof, but receiving truth.
