Qatar is building the Lusail city, not just another high-rise district, but a whole city from scratch. This green Megacity is estimated to cost $45 billion and is being constructed about 23 km from the existing capital of Doha.

Known as Lusail city, this project stretches over 38 square kilometers and includes four exclusive islands with a total expected population of 250,000.

Construction is well underway, with roads, utilities, and high-rise buildings already rising out of the desert. This Megacity is planned to be finished by the end of 2022, but many are asking how Qatar can build that much in so little time.

Qatar is no stranger to rapid growth. The nation holds the world record for per-capita carbon emissions due in part to its extreme reliance on burning fossil fuels for electricity and a population growing at a rate of 1.7% per year.

Thus, Qatar's seemingly sudden obsession with sustainability and eco-friendliness may seem to be a sudden change of heart. But the motivation behind these projects is to provide a viable alternative to the extremes of the desert - a place where people can live, work and thrive.

If its people are to survive, Qatar must adapt and find a way to sustain them. The desert is not a natural habitat, and Qatar's high growth rate means that it must find a way to provide shelter, food, and water for a population that is quickly becoming unsustainable.

In addition, Qatar's economy is based on oil, which has begun to dwindle. Therefore, the government of Qatar is attempting to diversify its economy into other sectors, such as real estate and tourism. Lusail City is one example of this attempt to diversify.

This Megacity is being constructed by Qatari Diar, a Qatar-based property developer. They have partnered with Dorsch-Gruppe and Parsons Corporation to complete this project in the promised period.

This project was planned to be completed in 12 phases. These are the construction packages that are labeled from CP1 to CP12. The first phase included laying the foundation of the place and starting the construction from scratch.

The project is being done bit by bit according to its need at that time. Upon completion of the whole project, there would be an exciting mixture of urbanization, innovative development, and the latest technologies.

Lusail city: The Basics
A city that is planned to be the first green city in the world, Lusail will have a unique look and feel to it. The city is being built with a vision to become the most brilliant city in the world by 2022.

The $45 billion Megacity is being built to the north of Doha. It will consist of at least 19 districts and four islands.

Lusail will have a 28-kilometer-long waterfront promenade outlined with palm trees to add to its tropical feel. The city will also have a large park around the central government complex.

Apart from these, the city will have other leisure and recreational facilities such as a stadium, sports arena, Marina twin towers, a golf course, medical services, and public avenues. Out of the total 28,000 buildings, 22 would be international hotels.

The city's buildings are being designed and constructed keeping in mind four main factors – sustainability, technology, aesthetics, and the environment.

The buildings in this city will be constructed using the latest technology and will be energy efficient. They will also be aesthetically beautiful and have good airflow and lighting.

The buildings will be constructed to be more earthquake resistant. Moreover, there would be underground tunnels carrying cold water pipes. It will be an energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly way to keep the above buildings cool.

This Megacity's construction started in 2006 with an estimated completion date of 2019. The project employs an integrated approach that leverages best-in-class technologies, joint ventures, and strategic alliances with local and international partners.
