'Togetherness AU' by ScruffiBerri - Little Nightmares comic dub

I really really enjoyed this comic and loved being able to dub it because so much stuff in it is such a breath of fresh air.

For one, Mono actually takes accountability for the hurt he caused Six and doesn’t try to excuse it, AND the comic doesn’t hold it against him either. Same with Six, it doesn’t justify her actions or intended actions, but it doesn’t demonise her for it either. Not putting either one of them on a pedestal or lower than the other. It’s extra satisfying that Mono himself says that he’s not a saint rather than him claiming that he is and someone else pointing out otherwise.

Secondly, it actually treats Six like a character. By this I mean that it allows her to be mad at Mono for the pain he caused her without treating her like she’s in the wrong (while also not justifying her intent to drop Mono, though I disagree that dropping him was a planned move (I go into full detail on why she drops him here: https://www.tumblr.com/purplemninja/6..., it allows her pain to actually matter, AND it lets her pain actually have an effect. A lot of the time I see Mono get mad at Six for being mad at him (and some people hoped that Mono would do that in this comic too, but I’m glad that Scruffi didn’t give them the time of day) and basically being like “Mono saved Six, so she’s not allowed to complain”, and she doesn’t immediately go back to fully trusting Mono afterwards, instead her trust needs to be built back up again and Mono’s willing to do so at Six’s own pace without complaint, making him likable.

Thirdly, Six’s pain was compensated. There’s a number of ‘Good Ending’ AUs where the only change is that Six doesn’t drop Mono but everything else is 100% the same, which is honestly mad disrespectful because it just comes off as “Hey Six, be a lamb and pull Mono up, will you? We don’t give two sh*ts about any suffering you had to go through, so we’re not even going to consider lessening it even a little. So long as Mono gets a happy ending we don’t care what pain you have to go through to make it happen”. And while it does bother and sadden me that Six’s soul wasn’t restored in this comic, at the very least Mono will actually do what he can to help her, which makes their escape and staying together more satisfying.

And finally, Six is honest to Mono about her intent to drop him and Mono’s not a doormat. I think you can tell that I had fun with the part where he uses his powers against the Flesh Walls, which I found really satisfying that he’s finally fighting for himself and Six against them. And I like that after they escape, Six doesn’t try to lie or deny what Shadow Six told Mono. Also this is a more personal point but I also like that Six told Mono about RCG’s death (albeit briefly). I kinda wish that in AUs where RCG is still dead, there would be more instances where Mono is in the know about it so that he knows Six a bit better. This goes double if it’s a ‘Runaway Kid lives’ AU.
