Maree and her Border Collie, Buddy, completed their 15th Mantrailing progression session at the Braemar industrial estate in NSW on 17 January, in pouring rain.
This session used two different start types:
One scent article start, followed by
One intensity start
We intentionally started with a more challenging setup and finished with an easier one, allowing Buddy to work through complexity first and then consolidate confidence and clarity at the end of the session.
Despite the heavy rain, Buddy worked thoughtfully and stayed engaged, bringing his strong problem-solving skills into a busy, wet urban environment.
Training in real weather conditions helps dogs generalise their trailing skills across surfaces, moisture, and environmental change — an important part of developing reliable, adaptable Mantrailing teams.
