Mock Ups? Basting or pinning Linings? When is it worth the time to do any of these things?
Make a mock up whenever the you face the following situations:
You are making the final project with just barely enough material and no way to get more
If the material you are using is very expensive or unusual
If you are mixing pieces from two or three different patterns
When you are going to change a part of the sewing pattern instructions (making pleats instead of gathers, for example)
If you really, really, really want the final project to be as awesome as possible
If there is no stretch in the final project material and it is very tailored or very fitted. Remember to factor in if the lining has stretch and the final material doesn't. If that is the case, use a different fabric that also doesn't stretch to make the mock up.
Let me know if you have ever made a mock up before, and how it worked out for you.
