“Just shortly before the Iranian Revolution started there was a very tumultuous time. I was 7 years old, and I was with my uncle, and he got tortured next to me, as well as my brother who was 2 years younger than I.
There, I made the decision: I will never talk to people if I don’t want to talk to them. I was a selective mute, so I chose to whom I spoke. Luckily, we end up with German grandparents in the north of Germany.
My grandfather was the man who made me start talking. My grandfather was a very sad man after the Second World War. I think he could identify with our pains and he started talking with me - talking about things he never opened up about.
With such a story behind you how do you heal? Survive - and that’s what I’m trying to do. And now, besides just surviving, I want to also know how to live.”
