1930's Bell & Howell 134 Double 8mm Film Camera

It was during the 1930s in Chicago, Illinois when Bell & Howell revolutionized amateur motion-picture recording with their creation of a series of 8mm film projectors and cameras. Among this grouping was the Bell & Howell 134 Camera, a fully mechanical film camera requiring no batteries!

Utilizing Double 8 film, a mirror-perforated version of 16mm film, the user extended filming times by 200% thanks to only exposing half of the film on each pass. It is as simple as flipping the spools once the length of film has been recorded for its first time.

Various models exist with our spotlight version, the Bell & Howell 134-TA Camera, featuring a turret style dish containing three separate lenses. With the flick of a wrist the operator can completely alter their framing via a new lens focal length.

The side of the camera features an interactive exposure index to help filmmakers determine the best ballpark settings to operate their device based on the quality of light in their environment.
