It was the height of Spring when the greens were still vividly varied and Nature was a frenzy of activity. David called this moment of peak excitement “Action Week”. It triggers a memory from earlier that year, when in the dead of winter he and JP ventured by car into the snow and experienced an epiphany, which was eventually caught three or so years later in his multi-screen video installation ‘Woldgate Woods, 2010’.

At the beginning of the video David is trying to get through to Sir Tatton Sykes, a friend and neighbour and the owner of Sledmere House. The red estate houses feature in his 1997 painting of 'The Road to York through Sledmere'.
