The Dahanu region in Maharashtra's Palghar district is home to diverse tribal communities who, due to various challenges, rely on subsistence agriculture. Marginalized and living on the fringes of industrial and urban areas, they struggle with diminishing forest lands. Once self-sufficient, these indigenous tribes now face poverty, often working as migrant laborers or small-scale farmers.
With support from NABARD, LHWRF has introduced an innovative Wadi model designed to suit the region’s unique agro-climatic and socio-economic conditions. This initiative has benefited 450 families through agroforestry-based livelihoods while also extending support to 50 landless families.
Watch and listen to the audio story to hear firsthand how this project has transformed lives in the region.
