The 1950s and 1960s saw the appearance of portable tape recorders, which could be used to record African musical practices that had been untouched until then in an enjoyable quality. For us, this meant getting to know the beginnings of musical evolution, but of course, the emergence of civilization also resulted in the slow destruction of ancient cultures.
That's why we feel it's important to commemorate these archival cultural treasures with this Africa remix.
Ngoni people:
an ethnic group living in the present-day southern African countries of Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
Banda-Linda:
A specific language dialect of the main ethnic group (Banda) of the Central African Republic.
Iboga:
African plant that contains hallucinogenic alkaloids.
Nganga:
a spiritual healer, diviner and ritual specialist in traditional Congolese religion.
Nyankanga:
the largest gold deposit in northern Tanzania.
Dikoboda Sombe:
aka pygmy children's song
