I Will Never Be Untrue, Me & the Devil Blues. Live May 31st 1969 from the Norman Mailer mayoral benefit at Cinematheque 16 in Hollywood.
Jim and Robby perform poetry and blues at a series of benefit events for the Norman Mailer mayoral campaign at a quaint arthouse venue in West Hollywood called Cinematheque 16. Along with friends and artists such as Michael McClure, Tom Baker, and Robbie Krieger, the fundraiser includes poetry readings and screenings of the Doors self-produced documentary Feast of Friends as well as Andy Warhol’s film I, A Man (which was allegedly passed on by Morrison to star in).
Friend and photographer Frank Lisciandro is in attendance for both of these shows and brings along a tape deck to record the performance. A small portion of Morrison’s performing a bluesy version of I Will Never Be Untrue with Krieger strumming along is used on the track Angels & Sailors from the posthumous spoken-word album An American Prayer.
