Audit Programme
According to Spicer & Pegler, audit programme is a detailed plan of the work to be performed by an auditor and his staff during the course of audit. It includes which work will be performed by whom, in which manner and within what time.
Advantages
The auditor is kept informed about the progress made by his assistants. Thus, the development in a particular audit is known at any time.
Each audit clerk is having complete idea about the span of work. He is also kept aware of his duties and responsibilities.
The work is done uniformly from year to year. The audit programme provides useful guidelines for the subsequent years.
When was the work done, by whom and by what time it was finished is ascertainable. Hence, it becomes easy to fix the responsibility for each piece of work
When any assistant goes on leave, his work can be easily entrusted to the other assistant as there would be a complete record of the work done by the previous assistant. The particulars of work kept pending are also thus available.
For new trainees audit programme is a useful guideline.
Due to scheduled audit programme the allocation of work can be done to the audit assistants on the basis of merits and competence.
In future whenever any suit for negligence against the auditor is brought, he can produce the audit programme to prove that he has exercised reasonable care and skill in carrying out the audit work.
