Was developed by ITU-T in 1976 (now comes in Several versions)
Is a Packet switched WAN widely used in 1970’s (unreliable public data network circuits for data transfer)
It was initially developed for private use not the internet
Node to Node Technology
Today it is one of the most widely implemented technology
X.25 standard specifically calls for three layers :- Physical layer, Link layer, Packet layer
Uses PAD if DTE is too simple to support full X.25 functionality
