Day 1: Parked truck at Townsend Wye and walked road about 2 miles to Lumber Ridge trail. Hiked Lumber Ridge and Meigs Mountains trails. Stayed at campsite #20. Cold night. An owl landed right above me in the middle of the night and started the whole, “who cooks for you” calls. Saw a small bear on the Lumber Ridge trail. Beautiful, wooded walk.
Day 2: Saw a red fox on the trail in the morning. Headed down Curry Mountain trail. Near end of trail, a small bear peaked his head out from the brush about 10 feet in front of me. We made eye contact for a second before it turned around and ran down the hill with his little buddy. Crossed Little River Rd and hiked Metcalf Bottoms, Little Briar Gap and Little Greenbrier down to Wears Cove Rd. Visited Walker Sisters cabin and Little Greenbrier schoolhouse. Finished day on Roundtop trail. It was a fun, remote trail. Startled a bear rounding a corner. Had to ford the Little River to get back to my truck. Beautiful, Fall day of hiking.
Happy hiking!
