First time going to Oshkosh part three- 2025/07/18 4M7 to KMTO

This is part three of Alex and my trip up to Oshkosh for the first time (not flying into KOSH). After a night of rest, we woke up early hoping to get an early start but were greeted by IFR weather that would prevent us from flying so decided to sleep in some. Even with waiting until later morning, the conditions were still less than ideal. We knew we had the stationary front we had to pass through so came up with a plan to try and fly a route from 4M7 to M21 to KOWB to KEVV. At the time of take off each of these was showing VFR conditions and planned to fly to each as long as the weather did not deteriorate. By the time we made it to KEVV, the conditions seemed good enough to continue onward. The clouds eventually started to close up though so we tried to make our way down below. In the moment I felt like it was tighter than I would have liked and editing the video after the fact I can see some better options for how to get down below but hindsight is 20/20 and I can only learn and grow from this. One definite lesson is reducing air speed to allow for smaller turns. Given Ruby's extremely slow stall speed going down to around 50-60 knots would have helped some but overall the hole was too small that we tried to get down through. We had to stay pretty low to stay under the clouds but due to all the farmland had a decent landing spot most of the way if our engine were to fail. Ultimately we decided to head to Coles County Memorial airport to get a break and wait for the weather to improve some.
