In this episode, we explore two books that examine important moments in perceiving and developing relationships with nature.
“At Low Water,” by Rebecca Chamlee, is an “intertidal memoir” that looks back to the beginnings of the artist’s enduring passion for exploration and observation of native species.
“Flora of Mughal India,” or لستان ھند (Gulistaan-e-Hind) by Radha Pandey, explores the shift in perception and representation of nature in illuminated manuscripts in India during a time of cultural and political change (1500–1700), and how that consequently changed the art of the book and the visual depictions of nature on the Indian subcontinent.
