The 2007 Chelembra bank robbery in Kerala was inspired by the Bollywood movie Dhoom. A gang of four rented a restaurant below the South Malabar Gramin Bank, pretending to renovate it. Over time, they secretly drilled a hole into the bank's strong room, stealing 80 kg of gold and ₹50 lakh in cash. The police investigation, involving phone call tracking and forensic evidence, led to their arrest within 56 days, recovering most of the stolen gold and money.
