Sinhagad Fort, located about 30 km from Pune, is a historic hill fort known for its strategic importance. Originally built over 2,000 years ago, it has witnessed many battles, but the most famous is the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670, where Maratha warrior Tanaji Malusare fought bravely to recapture the fort from the Mughals. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj honored Tanaji’s sacrifice by saying, “Gad aala, pan Sinha gela” (The fort is won, but the lion is lost). Today, Sinhagad stands as a symbol of courage, loyalty, and Maratha pride.
