Flying The Welsh Mountains | Gloucester Airport | Bristol Aero Club

After the lengthy break from flying I am now back and settled with a new club at Gloucester Airport.

Farm strip flying and the occasional ride with other pilots has been great fun, but it was never going to be a suitable long term solution for me. Sitting in the back of a PA28 or a C172 whilst somebody else flies to Compton Abbas or Thruxton... was great on the one hand, but also like a slow form of torture for me on the other...

At the same time as this I have somehow managed to scrape just enough of my own flying hours in order to keep my licence and it was clear I would need to make a decision on how best to move forwards. I needed a new base. One that could facilitate my flying for pleasure and also provide me with the option to take my flying further again if I so wished...

Gloucester fits this perfectly and I am incredibly excited for what the future may now hold!

For this first video back I am joined by Owain, who helps calm my pre-flight nerves before a stunning flight over the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains. Getting back into an aircraft again to fly seriously has been a big step for me and I am so grateful to people like Owain for their continued support.

We depart Gloucester via Runway 09 followed by a turn to the West. Our route takes us over Abergavenny, Talybont Reservoir, Pen y Fan and Sennybridge before turning back towards Gloucester.

This flight was beautiful and the perfect confidence booster to remind myself that I can do this!
