A day in the Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes
The Amsterdam Water Supply Dunesis an area in the dunes between Zandvoort (North Holland) and Noordwijk (South Holland).
The dune area provides for the extraction of drinking water for Amsterdam. Fifty million cubic meters of drinking water flows through this 3,400 hectare area every year. The Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes is the oldest water extraction area in the Netherlands. Water has been extracted in the Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes since 1853.
The Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes has the largest number of fallow deer in the Netherlands. There seem to be about 3,000 walking around. And you can notice that too. Spotting fallow deer is a breeze here. In this video you can see some beautiful examples.
Besides the many fallow deer we also spotted a fox.
