China appoints new trade negotiator amid escalating U.S. tariff war

China appointed a new international trade negotiator Wednesday amid an escalating tariff war with the U.S. Beijing also announced its economic growth exceeded expectations, growing 5.4% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year.
