Jan Křtitel Vaňhal (May 12, 1739 Nechanice, Bohemia - August 20, 1813 Vienna) Also Johann Baptist Wanhal, Wanhall, Vanhal, Van Hall. Born into serfdom to a peasant family. He excelled at the violin and organ from an early age, and received his first musical training from his family and local musicians, including organist Anton Erban. Vaňhal's music was well respected by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert. Vaňhal was also a proficient organist, and played violin and cello.
