So, I have had this siren on my bucket list for quite some time now, and today, I was finally able to experience it in person, and it was definitely one for the books. Dylan tagged along with us for this and 2 other sirens today, although the other 2 tests he was with us for were unsuccessful, but we had lots of fun nonetheless. As many others have said, this thing is absolutely insanely loud in person. In fact, this is easily the 2nd loudest siren I've ever heard, just barely behind the 6M 1000 in Marshall, Missouri we recorded in August of last year. It shredded my ears to oblivion and I could feel my whole body rumbling when the horn faced me. My meter got a max reading of 120.5 dBC (which likely would've been a few dB higher on my old meter) and Tommy's hit 122.9 dBA, which is by far the highest reading he has ever gotten from a directional rotating siren.
Also, as you might be able to see in the shot, there were a bunch of mosquitoes in the area and they were really annoying, so I apologize for that. Besides that, this has to be one of my favorite sirens I've been to. If you are a siren enthusiast and you are ever in or near the Cedar Falls area on a first Wednesday, this is definitely one that is worth checking out! Enjoy!
